MBFWA – Bec & Bridge Resort 2014

‘She glides into view, as if cutting through water, sleek, shimmering, statuesque…’

This season, Bec & Bridge take the plunge back to the 1990′s (when I was born!) featuring minimalist dress shapes, high-fronted, bias-cut mixed with form-fitting styles with longer lines. The focus of the collection was on the body, complimented by racer-back tops and dresses, panelled skirts and drawstring waistlines.

The fabric was light and airy providing a fluid silhouette as it glided down the gorgeous runway, equipped with its own installation of light above – almost like the backbone of the collection. I enjoyed the pearl like sheen and texture to the fabric, almost looking like fish scales! The lightweight knits were a favourite of mine, also were the dresses with in-built bras for a sense of effortless layering – even appearing on Natalie Cantell snapped up by international street style photographer for Style.com, Tommy Ton.

Backstage, ghd hair director, Alan White put the final touches to this glorious collection with an origami-inspired knot at the back of the head, with a kiss of pearl essence on the ends. White described this as ‘sexy, youthful and sophisticated, but not at all uptight – this hairstyle is easily relatable.’  During the week there were replays of backstage footage scattered across The Hub at Carriageworks – I was mesmarised by this hair! Wilddarts Edit – Fall 2013 Collections NEW YORK

ALEXANDER WANG

Sighting boxing as an inspiration for this fall collection, Alexander Wang focused foremost on outerwear this season. Fur ‘boxing glove’ mittens and oversized coats with leather and zip details were our favourites.

ALEXANDRE HERCHCOVICH

Brazilian designer, Alexandre Herchcovich mixed various floral prints in his fall collection. The dresses and skirts were full of volume and the prints were clashed beautifully. Florals seemed to be an interesting pick for fall but Herchcovich pulled it off beautifully.

BCBG MAX AZRIA

This season, BCBG Max Azria culminated the influences of Istanbul and the contemporary art of Phil Frost to create a very wearable (and amazingly styled) collection. Each look was beautifully layered with silk slips, heavy coats and jackets and leather pants. Very enjoyable collection, very wearable for the everyday woman.

CREATURES OF COMFORT

Exciting times for designer Jade Lai as Creatures of Comfort officially joined the ranks at NYFW this season.  I really enjoyed the quilted boxy coats and printed dresses of this collection, which was inspired by late artisit Louise Bourgeois.

CUSHNIE ET OCHS

Sexayyyy! Cushnie et Ochs stunned with this gorgeous emerald cut out thigh high split dress and this amazing digital printed image of the glow of sunlight though a canopy of trees on a beautiful flowing floor length skirt.

CEO

DEREK LAM

Bohemian spirit at Derek Lam this fall season. Favourite looks being the long navy tunic with geometric detailing and fur vest; the crisp white floor length gown and the ‘poncho dress’ with fringing detail.

Elizabeth and James fall 2013 collection was filled with gorgeous coats, like the rounded shouldered coat with patent leather sleeves and the watermelon colour mohair coat. Very Celine – without the heavy price tag!

Punk prince Jeremy Scott was no disappointment at his Fall 2013 show. A$AP would be loving this!

JIL STUART

Jil Stuart looked to Stella Tennant and her aristocratic friends in inspiring her Fall 2013 collection. The darkly romantic collection which included shiny coats and blazers, laser cut shorts and skirts and gorgeous textured dresses utilised the darker shades of the colour wheel including blacks, navys and a splash of white and gold. Very romantic and elegant.

KAREN WALKER

The Karen Walker Fall 2013 collection was a breath of fresh air. The pallet was very light, despite the blacks and greys. Favourite looks would have to be the dusty pink wrap vest, the black striped sweater, the khaki and grey dress with sash and easy black oversized vest. Simple yet perfection.

LACOSTE

Lacoste celebrates their 80th Anniversary this year and has come far from its classic polo shirts. Favourite looks being the emerald coat/dress with diagonal zip and the grey coat, pant combo also featuring the diagonal zip which defined the torso. Very modern and sophisticated.

Blogger of the Moment: Columbine Smille

Columbine_Header_01

The absolutely beautiful Swedish blogger, model and stylist for Style by (Elin Kling’s magazine) Columbine Smille is not just WD’s blog of the moment but also one of my fashion muses!

Smille has the ability to effortlessly style her outfits with a mixture of designer pieces, high street fashion and vintage finds. Her laid-back, ‘model off duty’ style is gorgeous and truly inspirational.

It is clear that the foundation of an amazing outfit is the simple, classic pieces; essentials like boyfriend jeans, plain tees, chunky knits, coats, layering and gorgeous accessories!

“My Grandma has always had a strong impact on me. She’s the type of lady that walks around the house wearing leopard printed blouses, caftans and golden heels. I’m inspired by strong women who have the ability to transform their visions into reality and possess the sort of confidence that shines through and creates an aura around them”

I never leave my house without… “My watch, multiple bracelets and necklaces from Stephanie Radenac and Maria Nidotter. I can’t leave without accessories!!”

I love mixing bold prints and colours and playing with contrasts; the contrast is what makes the outfit interesting. Also, I’m all for layering, but in a feminine sort of way. Just because you don’t show that much skin doesn’t mean that it’s not sexy. For me that’s way more confident.”

WILDDARTS EDIT – NEW YORK FASHION WEEK PART 2

ALICE + OLIVIA

This season at Alice + Olivia designer Stacey Bendet was inspired by the 1950′s American dream.

I’m loving the high necklines, the prints and structure of the collection. Also, I love the creative direction of the setting, the splashes of colour in the background clash well and compliment the pieces.

BRANDON SUN

At Brandon Sun, I really enjoyed the accessories! The fur necklace and bracelet shown in my edit below are very interesting pieces and take the clothes to another level.

The first and second looks in my edit have a very ‘free’ feel! I like the cuts and structure of these pieces – as well with the dusty colours!

The third look in my edit has lovely pockets and what appears to be a zip?! Very edgy! The razor tank top of the dress also brings out this feeling.

JOSIE NATORI

Let me start by saying I LOVE the headpieces! The lovely orchids give the collection a tropical, resort vibe which is lovely! As this IS spring/summer! – Maybe thats the Australian part of me talking!

The shoes are also another stand out for me – which are a first for the designer!

In the first look for my edit – I love the lightweight and airy feel of the blouse! The flowers around the base make it very pretty. The pants are also very airy and light.

The second look.. wow! Can’t go past that clutch! Very ornate and shows the designers Philippine heritage. Textures were a key aspect of this collection which I loved.

MARC JACOBS

Perfectly described on style.com by Tim Banks – “21st century split of Edie Sedgwick”

Loved the striped tee and the candy striped, scolloped edged slip dress :)

REEM ACRA

Loving the sexy low cut blouses and dress necklines! I love the sheer panel in the blouse below and could seriously see someone wearing the second look on a red carpet!

THEYSKENS’ THEORY

Theyskens’ Theory is seriously grungy but in a good way! The looks below are very wearable. My favourite being look three – I love the jacket and the thigh high split in the high waisted skirt.

VICTORIA, VICTORIA BECKHAM

This lower priced line by Victoria Beckham is seriously wearable (in my opinion!) I like the oversized tee-dress that has a dip dye quality to it – the blue is very refreshing!

Prints were nice too.. loved the black and white florals.

JENNY PACKHAM

Below is my favourite look from Jenny Packham, Love the hair, the print and cut of the dress – beautiful!

RODARTE

Love the greens in this seasons collection by Rodarte. Another stand out piece were these kick ass pants!

VERA WANG

Taking inspiration from India for her Spring/Summer collection, Vera Wang had amazing textures and colours! My favourites being the crisp whites and purples! Love the shoes also!!

ELIZABETH AND JAMES

Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen always have impeccable taste when it comes to clothing and their clothing labels are no different. My favourite looks from this seasons collection for Elizabeth and James include this crisp white jumpsuit and the black v neck silk blouse and to the ankle wrap skirt. Love the wooden looking bangles as well.

J. MENDEL

10 years since Gilles Mendel launched J.Mendel ready to wear! This seasons collection were based around watercoloured materials, v necks and ornate prints.

JEREMY SCOTT

Jeremy Scott was filled with golds and leathers! I loved the looks below. Something drew me to these sheer pants with baroque gold embellishments.

LOUISE GOLDIN

There was a sporty and casual vibe at the Louise Goldin spring summer show. I loved the sweatshirts and skirts below!

PROENZA SCHOULER

LOVE the sport-esque jacket and the high necked sheer printed dress below!

RACHEL ZOE

Naming Jane Birkin and Talitha Getty as her muses, Rachel Zoe’s spring summer collection has had mixed reviews. My favourite look from her collection is this spectacular sequined slouchy dress. All I can say is that Rachel Zoe knows her shit when it comes to red carpet looks and this look I can tell will be snapped up by someone for sure!

Slowly catching up with things! Stay glued to Wilddarts for the London edit which will be published tomorrow :)
