In reverse

If you follow Wilddarts regularly you would have noticed that I tend to show campaigns, looks and style that I love. Today Wilddarts is ‘in reverse’ and I will be using my stylist hat to show you some looks that I am not loving and some ways in which this could be improved.

EXIBIT A. Kim Kardashian

Kimmy K; you either love her or hate her – I for one, cannot get enough of Keeping up with the Kardashians and the famous families various other spin offs. (However Kourtney K-Dash is my ultimate favourite who I rarely see put a foot wrong!) But since this wonder-woman of reality tv stardom as been involved with Kanye West, her fashion choices have changed quite considerably.

Personally I don’t think the look above is really flattering for her at the moment. The pants and shirt are pulling and creating unflattering creases. As she is pregnant, her stomach will be growing and this look just focus’ your eye on this area in an unflattering way. Most body shapes should think about concentrating on one key piece in the menswear style.. for example choosing a more tailored pant (and wore the mens wear inspired jacket) or a tailored jacket (and mens wear inspired pants)  the look would look more balanced. The Givenchy boots with this look do not work.. they would look better with a structured skirt such as the structured skirt in our latest post about Australian label, Winston Wolfe.

Kim (and her stylists) tend to focus on her ample curves, however in my opinion they do this in the wrong way. Above, the look makes her very top heavy, makes her look larger than she actually is. Kim has picked up on the ‘trend’ of wearing a jacket over the shoulders as a cape, however in this look the jacket is awkward and makes her shoulders look big.

The jacket over the shoulders is a no in this situation.

 

Once again, the high waisted pencil skirt is very unflattering. The seam draws the eyes towards her hips and makes them look wider than they actually are. The skirt is quite tight and is creating creases all down the front and back – This also makes the body look chunky.

Kim in Paris. First thing I see, those tie up peep toe boots. No. The whole look is flat black and all your eye is drawn to is her toes. I can’t get over this ‘cape’ – if you look really carefully it is basically a hoodie with a train on the back. She is in the most fashion forward city in the world and she chooses to wear this. It is unflattering, boring and just plain dumb. All black looks can be amazing, you need TEXTURE!

Kim herself said that this look is one for the fashion misses and I do not doubt that at all! This jacket/shirt is so boxy, it makes her look very top heavy and creates the image of a huge waist.

Kim Kardashian has a banging body but unless she learns how to dress properly (or employs stylists that actually know what they are doing), she will never be able to show her body off to its best ability. I have seen many photographs of Kim where she looks incredibly stylish but I have also seen many many photographs where I have thought to myself.. “What is she thinking?!”
